Welfare, it's a huge (pain) and important aspect of the liberal platform. The left has always championed welfare. WHile the the right has generally objected to welfare. The idea is, that if you are out of work or poor with not income, you can get checks from the government. Granted those checks are funded by other peoples pay checks. Now what it is suppose to do is "help" poor people. Really all it does is destroy ambition and make people more reliant on the government. But that's another argument.
The left has long supported welfare, but if you go back to the early 1900s, during Mussolini's Fascist movement, you will find one of the big things on the list, was welfare. It was viewed as a key element to a fascist nation as described in the 'Fascist Doctrine.' Along with several other state run or statist programs such as social security, free health care and as i've said, welfare. All of those are also liberal policies.
Welfare, it began during Mussolini's FASCIST revolution, and still exists today in the LIBERAL platforms.
