Taxing Victory

Politicians want very much to succeed in Afghanistan. They really hope we win. Or more so they hope they can create a situation in which they can raise taxes on us.

They are now tossing around the idea of a "war tax". Hmmm this, congressman Obey said, will be essential to win the war and to help the budget.

This tax would also go directly to those who make $200,000 a year and more. Translation: We need this tax so we can further tax the rich. We jump at any chance to do that.

Now remember back on the campaign when our lord and savior Barack Obama, promised he would not raise taxes on those making $250k or less?

Check ? another broken campaign promise, if this goes through.

  1. The tax has nothing to do with winning the war, rather its a more symbolic political approach to standing up against it. The Bushies kept the price of the war out of the budget and borrowed money to fund it -- thereby contributing to the deficit handed to the Obama camp. Obey is stating that if we are willing to send our troops to war, we ought to be willing to fund them instead of borrowing more money. The chance of a war-tax passing are slim-to-none, but Obey has made the same political move before. As chair of Approps in the 70's, the Republicans were demanding Congress for a balanced budget because the Dems were spending too much. To prove a point, Obey brought an appropriations bill that balanced the budget to the floor of the House where it failed because everyone voted against it.

  2. When are the Obama drones gonna accept the responsibility. All they do is talk about what the inherited, instead of focusing on the tasks they have.

This is Obama's budget and deficit now. Obama's trillion dollar deficit. Obama tripled the deficit.

BUt i am by no means letting the repubicans off the hook. Their reckless spending was terrible. The 7 trillion RX drug, or the war that i agree with you on, or the 2008 stimulus, the 'did nothing' 700B bank bailout.

No republicans don't have much room to talk as far as spending. But then for the dems to bitch about Bush spending, they need to look at their own.

But this is just politics. Maddening!!! But we do need to balance the budget.
