The Mathematics Of Racism

Now days almost every eighth or ninth grader, depending on the school will take a class called, geometry. Geometry is based on shapes and numbers. One can learn many different things through geometry. For example one can learn the sides of a triangle, the measurements of radius and diameters in circles and more. Yet of all of the things we learn in geometry, one of the most reoccurring is the problem know as a "proof." And in those proofs, we have statements or rules. These rules are written in, "if, then" form.

An example of one of these statements is: If the alternate interior angles are congruent, then the lines are the parallel.

So now, how does this relate to racism? It is very simple. One is often called a racist for having a dislike or fear of another race. For example, Johnny is white, and he is from Alabama. So he and his family do not like black people for what ever reason. So naturally we would call them racist. If one doesn't like our president, because he is black, then he is racist.

If he is black, then i don't like him. That is racism, in if-then form. Now these statements or rules as i mentioned above, also have what is called a converse. This means that if the alternate interior angles are congruent and that makes the lines parallel, then the exact opposite must also be true.

The converse of that rule is: If lines are parallel, then the alternate interior angles are congruent.

So let's take, the exact opposite of our racist statement: If he is black, then i don't like him. The opposite of don't like, in this case would be, like. So; If i like him, then he is black.

Is it not equally racist to like some one simply because of their race? Why is racism only if you dislike black people. The only reason you didn't vote for Obama is because he is black is racist, but then is the fact that some one votes for him only because he is black not racist?

Both statements (if, then) describe racism. Just as the two geometry statements describe lines being parallel. So clearly by math we have determined that things such as Affirmative Action and favoring only by race is just as racist as disliking because of race.

Racism is the act of elevating one race over another, thereby denigrating another. Or the converse. During slavery racism was denigrating another race, thereby elevating another.

Now today through affirmative action we try and make up for that by using the converse. We help elevate blacks to make things even, but that results in, oh, denigrating the other.

If, then geometry. Affirmative Action. Wow. I would not recommend trying to explain this to your geometry teacher.
